EIAA Fall 2011 Meeting
Our Social Chair tells me that we've got a new date for our fall alumni weekend: it's Friday, October 21st 2011 to Sunday, October 23rd September 30th through October 2nd 2011.
Mark your calendars now. I've been assured that it will be the best alumni weekend ever, or your money back*.
*Offer not valid.
EIAA Meeting S11
The Spring EIAA meeting will be held at noon today in room CII 3051.
If you can't make it, you can always participate via vyew: http://vyew.com/room#/630206/EIAA_Meeting_S11
WWOLFPAC 2011
The summer WWOLFPAC project to upgrade the porch will take place the weekend of August 5-7.
The main project will encompass removing the existing tile surface and replacing with composite decking. Key skills would include swinging a sledge, moving debris, measuring and cutting to length, and operating a power driver. You are all capable of helping, and I encourage anyone and everyone to help. Depending on attendance, we may also tackle a number of other smaller maintenance type projects.
The actives will be making an exploratory hole to determine current porch construction around April-ish. More detailed planning can be done after the existing structure is fully investigated.

Register for the Web Site
I'll re-print Milkman's 2008 post encouraging all you potential members to go ahead and register. Now that we use OpenID, that should be even easier. Now, without further ado, is the original post:
Hello, dear reader. I was talking with another alumnus this weekend (let's just call him Mr. L. Goodrich for now) and he mentioned that there is very little activity on this forum. I told him that if he were to register for the forum, he would be able to view the six forums, over 40 topics, and over 270 posts (as of this writing) that are not open to the public. This brought about an epiphany, and he swore to register at his earliest convenience.
I thought I would relay this story here, in case other alumni that haven't registered also have the impression that this forum is devoid of conversation. I beseech them to take the time to register, and thereby reveal the hidden treasure within.
As for our protagonist Mr. Lee G., I'll see you in the Lounge, slacker.
OpenID
One of the biggest barriers to the use of the old forum was the fact that it required yet another username and password.
With the advent of openID - you now don't need yet another login. Going forward, all authentication on this site will be openID enabled. If you still want to create a username & password for the site, you can, and add an openID later if you want. You probably already have an openID - Yahoo ID's have been openID enabled since 2008.
Sounds great, how do I use it?
First, find your provider's openID URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenID#OpenID_Providers or http://openid.net/get-an-openid/
Next, paste the URL for your chosen provider into the openID box on our new site. You'll be brought to a page hosted by your openID provider, and asked to authorize the logon. Once you do - you're in! We never see your password - you don't need to make a new account on this site, and we get reliable authentication.
WordPress
As you may have noticed, the EIAA site is now using WordPress.
WordPress was selected because it's being actively developed, it's free, and it's just enough of a content management system to be highly usable, and highly manageable.
It also has a ton of plugins that will allow us to adapt the site to our needs fairly easily.
